Local hospice highlights importance of gifts in wills with new campaign
Did you know the care of 1 in 5 patients at St Peter’s Hospice is provided by donations through Gifts in Wills? Did you know you can leave even 1% of your estate to charity in your Will? Did you know St Peter’s offers a free Will-writing service to supporters all year round?
Much-loved Bristol charity St Peter’s Hospice is celebrating legacy giving throughout March, spotlighting how Gifts left in Wills help provide vital services to local patients and their families when it matters most.
A massive 80% of St Peter’s Hospice’s income comes from the generosity of the community through shopping in their shops, donations, fundraising events and Gifts in Wills.
Now the fundraising team is encouraging more people to consider leaving a legacy as a way to support the local Hospice now and into the future. The Did You Know? campaign highlights the amazing generosity of St Peter’s supporters throughout Bristol and beyond and how Gifts in Wills secure expert end-of-life care for those who need it the most.
Matt Crothers from St Peter’s Hospice, said: “Legacy giving is a hugely important area of fundraising for us, but people can be unsure about how it works.
“Supporters can leave even 1% of their estate to us in their Will, meaning their loved ones inherit 99%. Leaving a Gift costs nothing now and is so easy to do.
“The care of one in five of our patients is provided by Gifts in Wills, so we need to spread the word and sustain this income in order to protect the future of our services for our community.
“We want legacy giving to be on people’s radar when planning for the future.
“We also want to reach out to people who have already decided to support us with a pledge, but who we haven’t had direct contact with – we’d love to say a huge thank you to them.”
St Peter’s Hospice also offers free Will-writing services to supporters. In partnership with the National Free Wills Network, the charity provides face-to-face Will making with local solicitors, as well as online and telephone options through Farewill.
Matt continued: “Having an up-to-date Will is the best way to ensure your loved ones and the causes you care about are looked after.
“There is absolutely no obligation to leave us a gift when using a free Will service, but we hope that you will consider remembering St Peter’s in your Will and help us care for those in your community.”
St Peter’s Hospice is Bristol’s only adult hospice, caring for patients with incurable conditions in Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset.
It costs around £27,000 per day for St Peter’s Hospice to provide care at the Hospice in Brentry and out in the community. The charity also supports family members, loved ones and carers, offering bereavement therapy and supportive drop-in sessions.
