Three nominations for Clarke Willmott at Bristol Law Society awards

Clarke Willmott has received three nominations for an annual award ceremony which celebrates Bristol’s legal sector.

The Bristol Law Society Awards Dinner will take place on Thursday 2 November where lawyers from across the city will gather to celebrate their achievements at a black tie event at the Delta Hotel Bristol City Centre.

Victoria Day

Shortlisted for the prestigious Lawyer of the Year category is Victoria Day, a Court of Protection executive in Clarke Willmott’s private capital team.

Anthony Fairweather

Anthony Fairweather, managing director of Clarke Willmott’s private client division said: “I am delighted that Victoria has been shortlisted. She has driven forward all aspects of our team development - mentoring, training and winning new business while supporting our very vulnerable clients, and I am pleased to see her hard work recognised.”

Nominated for Team of the Year is Clarke Willmott’s specialist financial services litigation team. Associate Mamunul Wahid also on the FS litigation team has been shortlisted for Junior Lawyer of the Year.

Philippa Hann, Clarke Willmott managing director and a partner in financial services litigation, said: “We have worked as a team for the last five years in a hard slog to find justice for the steelworkers who were wrongly advised to transfer out of the British Steel Pension Scheme. By any standards this is a national scandal and we are proud of the part that the Clarke Willmott financial services team has played in recovering over £42.7 million and lobbying for all the affected steelworkers to receive compensation through the consumer redress scheme.

“Our team motto is “we fight the corner of those who cannot fight for themselves” and we have dedicated every working day to that cause.

“I’m also delighted that Mamunul has been shortlisted for the Junior Lawyer award, this is a recognition of the incredible hard work and care he has demonstrated throughout the last five years of working on the fight for the British Steel pensioners.”

The awards are the Bristol Law Society’s flagship event and recognise the excellence of the legal profession in the area.

This year the event will raise money for Somerset and Avon Rape and Sexual Abuse Support (SARSAS). SARSAS is an integral support service for the region, providing vital and inclusive access to counselling and support for all individuals affected by rape and sexual abuse, as well as training and campaigning for survivors.

Clarke Willmott has offices in Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, London, Manchester, Southampton and Taunton. This year the firm is celebrating its 135th anniversary.
