North Somerset school opens up to all year groups
A North Somerset school has opened its doors to all year groups following the recent easing of the nationwide lockdown.
Fairfield School in Backwell has been able to welcome back all of its pupils in all year groups.
Due to its small class sizes, the school has been able to spread children out enough so that every year group can return to the classroom and enjoy a full curriculum. Utilising its larger spaces such as the assembly hall when needed, children work on individual desks set up with everything they need for the day.
The school is also operating staggered drop-off and pick-up times, staggered break and lunchtimes and with the kitchens remaining closed, pupils are bringing their own packed lunches in.
Fairfield School headmistress Lesley Barton said: “We are thrilled to have welcomed back all of our year groups over the past couple of weeks and the children are delighted to be back too.

“During lockdown we worked really hard to provide our pupils with a stimulating, broad and engaging virtual learning programme which worked really well but it’s fantastic to have them back in school socialising with their friends, which in turn takes the strain off of their parents, who are very appreciative! To be able to offer full-time education to all is something we’re really delighted to be able to offer.
“We are still running our remote learning programme for those families who have decided not to return yet, ensuring that all our children receive the best education possible.”
Fairfield School is an independent co-educational school for children aged 2 to 11. Class sizes are limited to around 20 at Fairfield, with many much smaller, and there is a very wide range of clubs and activities, sport, music and drama to excite the interest of pupils.
Lesley continued: “The children have been absolutely brilliant at adapting to the new systems, including hand washing, sanitising and hygiene measures.
“Opening up to all age groups means that the children are able to gain closure for this academic year. There are only a few weeks before the end of term, but it is so important for the pupils to have the chance to say goodbye to their teachers and spend some time with their friends.”
Fairfield is historically a PNEU School, which means it is affiliated to the Parents’ National Education Union. There are PNEU schools throughout the UK and the world.
