Last call for BS5 organisations to apply for community grant
Community groups in the Greenbank area of Bristol are being encouraged to apply for one of several special grants available before the deadline for the first round of entries closes at the end of the month.
The ‘Sweet Support’ initiative launched by local firm Sweet Construct is offering a total funding pot of £5,000, with individual grants made of up to £500 towards eligible projects in the area.
Organisations simply must demonstrate how the money will help to deliver lasting benefits to the local community in Greenbank.
Entries received so far include those from childcare settings, charities and sports groups and the firm is keen to receive more entries before the 31 October cut-off.
Lewis Sweet, Managing Director of Sweet Construct commented: “We launched our Sweet Support grant initiative over the summer with the aim of providing financial investment to worthy local causes. While working in Greenbank we have experienced what a wonderful community it is so we wanted to do something which will benefit the area for years to come.
“Supporting the communities we work in is an important part of what we do and demonstrates just some of the many benefits that construction and regeneration works can bring to an area. The funds will be used to support and develop initiatives, projects and organisations that benefit the residents of Greenbank and will help achieve our aim to leave a legacy through our work that reaches far beyond the buildings we create.”
The family-owned construction firm is currently working in the area as contractor for The Chocolate Factory development, which is transforming the former derelict Elizabeth Shaw Chocolate Factory into high-quality homes for property investment and regeneration specialists, Generator South West.
Jason Schofield, Development Director at Generator South West added: “Sweet Construct’s commitment reflects our view that community is absolutely central to the success of this scheme and is in perfect alignment with the main objective of this project; to place this site at the heart of the Greenbank community once again.”
