Little angels bring Christmas joy to elderly neighbours
Pupils from St Budeaux CE Primary Academy made a very welcome visit to Plymouth dementia care home Butterfly Lodge, delighting residents with a ‘very polished’ performance of carols and other Christmas songs.
Sarah McCaffrey, deputy manager, said: “The school is just a 10 minute walk from us and pupils from all years often come to see us and do activities with our residents.
“Their Christmas performance was just lovely and delighted our ladies and gents, many of whom were only too keen to join in with the familiar tunes.
“They especially enjoyed The first Noel and It was on a starry night.
“When the children visit at other times of the year sometimes we do arts and crafts, but what our residents really love is chatting with them and enjoying having young people around the home.
“It’s also lovely for the children because they don’t all have elderly friends or relatives living locally and there is something very special about the relationships that are built across the generations.”
Butterfly Lodge is run by specialist dementia care provider Camelot Care who also have homes in Bridgwater, Wellington and Yeovil, with a fifth to open in Holsworthy in 2025.
