Care home staff raise £700 for Breast Cancer Research

Staff at a Bridgwater dementia care home have raised an amazing £710 by holding a pink-themed coffee morning as part of national Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the funds raised will benefit the UK’s largest breast cancer charity, Breast Cancer Now.

Lisa Priddice, activities co-ordinator at Avalon Nursing Home, said: "Cancer is something that has affected people close to us and impacted our lives so we wanted to do something special to raise awareness and funds to help with the research.

“The amount of support we received was incredible, especially considering we only had three weeks to plan and host the event.

“So I’d like to send a huge ‘thank you’ from me and my colleague Chloe Wegg for all the incredible support we received from residents, friends, families and other members of our team at Avalon.

“We are so grateful to the colleagues who contributed delicious home-made cakes, and those who came into the home on their day off – wearing pink - because they were so keen to play a part.

“The activities team did a fabulous job of decorating the lounge in pink and ensuring resident involvement.

“We’d also like to thank pupils and teachers from Northgate school for their ongoing involvement with Avalon: so many people admired the ‘many hands’ craft, created jointly by children and residents, which we displayed at the coffee morning.”

Avalon Nursing Home is run by award-winning dementia care providers Camelot Care who also have homes in Wellington, Yeovil and Plymouth, and a fifth due to open in Holsworthy in 2025.
