A fond farewell to chaplain Joanna

Residents and staff at a dementia care home in Plymouth bid a fond farewell this week to the chaplain who has been supporting them for the past 14 years.

Joanna Bound has been visiting Butterfly Lodge under the Care Home Chaplaincy scheme run by Churches Together in Plymouth, leading acts of worship and contributing guidance and support at regular relatives’ meetings since 2010.

Clare Sinclair, manager of Butterfly Lodge, said: “We have so appreciated Joanna’s visits over the years and we’re going to miss her very much.

“We said goodbye to her with a very moving carol service, and gave her flowers and chocolates as a thank you for the time she has dedicated to our lovely residents and their families over the years.

“The residents have always enjoyed the services she led, especially her Remembrance Day services, and would join in enthusiastically with the hymns they have been singing all their lives.

“Joanna has also been a source of comfort to family members when their loved ones have been at end of life.

“And everyone has appreciated her annual memorial services that we hold with families of residents we have lost the preceding year.

“We thank Joanna very much for the love and compassion she has always shown our residents, staff and loved ones.”

Butterfly Lodge is run by award-winning dementia care providers Camelot Care who also have homes in Bridgwater, Wellington and Yeovil with a fifth due to open in Holsworthy in 2025.
