Students bring Alveston alive with the sound of music
Marlwood School students delighted audiences with a triumphant end-of-term performance of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s ‘The Sound of Music.’
After months of hard work and preparation the dedicated efforts of cast and crew paid off as the local community laughed, cried and sang along to what was hailed as: “a stunning performance.”
Head of drama, Becky Ferguson, said: “With lockdown having prevented any productions in the last few years, this promised to be a show not to be missed - and everyone involved with the production ensured this promise was well and truly delivered.”
“It was hard to believe nearly two hours had passed as the show drew to its powerful and emotional conclusion and there were many tears from the audience as we watched Maria and the von Trapp family climb that final mountain to cross over into Switzerland to begin their new life together.
“The whole cast were on stage for a stunning finale and it was clear to see how much they had all enjoyed being part of this performance.
“To top it all off, the audience were invited to sing along to the encore of songs, which ended the evening on such a high. It felt amazing to sing together and enjoy the magic of performance like this for the first time since Covid.”
Becky was keen to give credit to everyone involved in the production - cast, singers, dancers, set designers, sound and lighting engineers, costume designers, stage managers and prop creators – who, she said, worked seamlessly as a team to put together a night to remember.
Marlwood School in Alveston is part of the Castle School Education Trust (CSET) which offers high quality education across the primary, secondary and sixth form key stages at seven South Gloucestershire schools.
