Strong Praise From Ofsted for “Rapidly Improving” Mangotsfield School

Students and staff at Mangotsfield School, South Gloucestershire, are celebrating a ‘Good’ rating from Ofsted, their first in its history since the school opened over 60 years ago.

Ofsted highlighted the strength of school leadership, the ambition of staff and students to achieve and the strong curriculum in the school. The report states that staff, pupils and parents at the school feel that “the school is a much better place to learn.” The Ofsted Inspection team described Mangotsfield as a “community focused, ambitious school.”

The inspectors also commented that academic expectations in the classrooms were high and that, “Leaders strive to ensure that pupils achieve their potential. Staff share this ambition. Across the curriculum, teachers structure learning well, enabling pupils to remember and understand what they learn.”

Mrs Blackmore, Headteacher at Mangotsfield School, is delighted with the outcome: “Everyone has worked so hard for this outcome. I am thrilled that Mangotsfield community now has the recognition it deserves. Working with our brilliant students and staff everyday is a joy and I am very proud to be part of this school.”

She also added: “We all have one aim - to ensure that our students are given the best chances and leave here with the best choices for their futures. I am so pleased the inspectors realised this and the strong community we are.”

The report recognised the impact of the pandemic on the education system, but also praised how quickly school leaders were able to reintroduce the wide range of extra-curricular activities and school trips on offer.

Mangotsfield School is part of the Castle School Education Trust (CSET), which also includes Marlwood School, Castle School, Downend School, Charfield Primary School, Lyde Green Primary School and Severn Beach Primary School.

CSET’s CEO Will Roberts is very pleased with this recent report: “This report affirms what we have seen in action in the school. The team at Mangotsfield School have made so much effort to improve the experience students have and the possible outcomes they can achieve. I am incredibly impressed by Mrs Blackmore’s, the staff’s and the school community’s commitment to making Mangotsfield the best school it can be.”
