2020 English National Surfing Championships set to be completed

Surfing England has announced that the majority of the remaining divisions of the 2020 Caravan and Motorhome Club English National Surfing Championships will run on 10th – 11th October 2020 at Watergate Bay, Cornwall.

The organisation, who are the National Governing Body for Surfing, ran the first half of the English Nationals in Mid-March just before lockdown. The organisation says it has been working tirelessly to find a way to deliver the remaining Junior Shortboard Divisions (U12, U14 and U16) and Longboard Divisions (U18 Boys & Girls, Men’s and Women’s). Unfortunately, due to coronavirus restrictions, the Seniors, Masters, and Veterans will not run for 2020 as Team England Squads are prioritised. Surfing England really hope to bring these divisions back for 2021, as they look to support all English Surfers and develop the sport across all disciplines for people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.

Tina Beresford, Surfing England Board Member and established surfer said: "It’s fantastic that even with all the challenges of 2020 Surfing England have managed to ensure that more divisions of the English national surfing championships can take place allowing the opportunity for England's best longboarders and young shortboarders to showcase their skills and compete for a national title."

Harvey Alexander, Director of Marketing and Membership Services, Caravan and Motorhome Club Headline Sponsor said, “It’s awesome news the competition is running this year. We’re super proud to continue our support of Surfing England and the whole surfing community. We know that many surfers use campervans and caravans to travel to events and stay near the coast so they can indulge their passion for surfing. The Club operates over 30 sites near to great coastal destinations and these are firm favourites with surfers. We applaud the great work of Surfing England to encourage people to get outdoors and be more active, the health benefits are so important.”

Due to covid-19 restrictions the event will be limited entrants with Team England surfers prioritised, single peak only and run with live scoring. The aim of this event is to award the remaining English National Champion titles for 2020.

Most of all Surfing England are hugely excited to return to the beach and bring the contest back to Watergate Bay for its 48th year at this brilliant location. The evbent has been made possible by headline sponsors Caravan and Motorhome Club, supporting partners Korev Lager and our other Event Partners: The Wave, dryrobe, Surfdome, PADSTOW ROCKS, Shower in a Can, Clarke Willmott, Panoptic Motion, and Ecoworks Marine.

Please note the Event will run with considerable COVID19 measures and Risk Assessments in place. In the instance of further lockdowns or changes in Government guidance Surfing England hold the right to cancel. Information can be found at:
