Happy anniversary Chestnut Lodge

The team at Chestnut Lodge Nursing Home in Yeovil is celebrating the second anniversary of the opening of the home with the great news every room is now fully booked and has a waiting list.

Manager Graham Oakes said: “We admitted our first resident to Chestnut Lodge on 27 February 2023. Since then, we have steadily filled our beds and on the anniversary of that first admittance we are now at 100 per cent capacity.

“We are all so pleased about this because we wanted to create a home for local people living with dementia; somewhere where residents are the centre of everything we do; somewhere that relatives and friends can easily visit.

“We have kept one room allocated for people to stay for short breaks to give their carers a rest. Please call the home to learn availability.”

“Since the early days where we had a handful of residents and just a few staff, the home has grown into a special place to live and work.”

Residents regularly enjoy musical events and entertainers, and during the anniversary week were delighted to welcome back singer Jaine Thorne, who is a regular at Chestnut Lodge.

Jaine bills her Sing Something Simple sessions as ‘a musical interlude’ designed to re-introduce people to a selection of radio/tv theme tunes, film stars, songs, nursery rhymes, news items and events from the past specifically chosen to stimulate audience participation.

Chestnut Lodge was fully refurbished to a very high standard and the purpose-built home can now accommodate 38 residents in single rooms, each with a personal wet room.

The home also provides respite care tailored to meet carers’ needs, with stays from 1-30 nights available.
