Bakers Dolphin supports life-saving initiative with discounted coach travel to Parliament
South West coach operator Bakers Dolphin has provided much-needed support to local project Donate for Defib Weston-super-Mare.
The company provided discounted coach travel for the project’s visit to Parliament, where they met with local MP Daniel Albridge to discuss the importance of publicly accessible automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in Weston-super-Mare and the surrounding areas.
With an additional donation from Elms Funeral Directors who covered the remaining travel costs, the team at Donate for Defib W-s-M travelled to the House of Commons to continue their mission of advocating for AEDs as life-saving devices, essential for improving cardiac arrest survival rates.
The meeting was a huge success, with the team at Donate for Defib W-s-M leaving optimistic about new opportunities.
Josh Bell, project lead at Donate for Defib W-s-M and former student paramedic, said: “AEDs are crucial in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest. If used within the first minute, the survival rate can be as high as 90%.
“Because the effectiveness of AEDs decreases the more time that passes, we realised the importance of having one close by. We set Donate for Defib up to raise awareness of this fact and to get more publicly accessible defibrillators installed within the local community.
“Our trip to Parliament and meeting with Daniel Albridge was crucial for furthering our mission and we’re incredibly grateful for the support of Bakers Dolphin and Elms Funeral Directors for providing us with transport.
“It was an unforgettable journey and it wouldn’t have been possible without them or our incredible coach driver, Ryan, who went above and beyond, showing care, kindness, and genuine interest in our life-saving defibrillator project. He’s a true credit to Bakers Dolphin and we can’t thank them enough for their continued commitment to the community.”
