Country tunes and summer fun at St Cecilia

It was a case of cowboy hats at the ready when country and western’s The Calamity Janes ‘flew into’ town to help celebrate the open day at St Cecilia care home in Shepton Mallet.

The duo who performs hits from the 1950s through to current Nashville chart toppers entertained more than 45 guests at the event, celebrating with music, food, and togetherness.

Tracy Woolfrey, registered manager of St Cecilias, which is run by Somerset’s White Care Group, said it was a day to remember.

“The Calamity Janes provided the soundtrack to a fabulous event – the sun was shining, the food and drinks were amazing especially the home-made Pimms and the grilled meat and sausages were flying off the barbeque.

“Their renditions of classics like "The Deadwood Stage" and "Just Flew in from the Windy City" were a real hit and prompted some enthusiastic sing-alongs and toe-tapping.

“It was such a great atmosphere. Everyone had such a good time; it was a really enriching experience for our residents."

Invitees included residents' families and friends along with members of Somerset Council’s social work team; Mendip safeguarding team; NHS Community Mental Health team, and Inner Wheel who support St Cecilia residents with monthly Music2Connect sessions.

St Cecilias has recently undergone improvements to the building and its contents including new double glazing, furniture and flooring throughout the home.

The home's chef Seb Muresan, and Tom Scanlon from White Care Group’s St Benedict’s care home in Glastonbury catered for the event.

St Cecilia is a specialised residential care home for residents with dementia with 17 single bedrooms.
