Grand Pier closes
The Grand Pier in Weston-super-Mare has closed until further notice as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic.
The management team reluctantly took the decision to close the attraction in the wake of updated government advice around social distancing to help prevent the spread of the virus.
Just days before the decision was taken the Pier pledged to remain open as long as possible – but said they would, of course, closely monitor the situation and follow the latest government advice.
A statement from the iconic seafront landmark said: “Following the government’s latest advice, it’s with great sadness that we have to announce that the Grand Pier will be closed until further notice.
“We would like to thank everyone who has sent us messages of support over the past few weeks.
“We have the most amazing, loyal, customers.
“We also need to thank our staff for being so supportive over this time of uncertainty. Until we are able to re-open, we would like to wish all our guests and staff best wishes; please stay safe and take care.”
The Pier had already cancelled a fireworks spectacular which had been scheduled for April 4.
The closure of the attraction means all other events that had been scheduled have now been cancelled. All tickets will be fully refunded.
Guests are urged to keep monitoring the attraction’s social media channels for updates.
The Pier is the latest in a long line of attractions forced to close because of the pandemic, as the government urge people to not gather in groups.
