Bristol firm makes app free to support people with learning disabilities through self-isolation

In response to the Government’s request that people with Learning Disabilities self- isolate, technology start-up AutonoMe offers a FREE version of their platform to any person with a Learning Disability in the UK.

Hoping to alleviate some of the challenges faced by people with Learning Disabilities, AutonoMe will provide through their App’ support for free throughout the Coronavirus pandemic across the UK.

There are an estimated 1.4 million people in the UK with Learning Disabilities; many of whom need support to cook for themselves, keep their homes and themselves clean or keep their homes safe. These are things AutonoMe supports people with Learning Disabilities to do with little or no support. AutonoMe is usually a paid service combining access to our App which contains instructional videos, prompts and reminders and one-to-one support to tailor the App to the person’s individual needs and abilities. From Monday, March 23rd, AutonoMe is offering free access to the AutonoMe app to anyone with a Learning Disability.

William Britton, AutonoMe Founder said “The team at AutonoMe, like most people around the UK, asked ourselves what we could do to help with the Coronavirus Pandemic. Knowing that the people we exist to support are some of those most vulnerable to the virus, we want to ensure we are able to provide key support to what will be an overstretched workforce. For this reason, we have decided to provide free access to our App containing instructional videos so that people with Learning Disabilities can better look after themselves when carers may not be able to.

AutonoMe provides, through their App, access to a comprehensive library of instructional videos and reminders to anyone with learning disabilities. All the videos demonstrate skills needed for independent living such as cooking meals, cleaning the home, managing personal hygiene, safety and security- including how to properly wash your hands - available 24x7 on any smart device.

In 2018 AutonoMe received £435,000 in investment from Bristol Private Equity Club. The club is made up of successful entrepreneurs with spare capital from the region, who want to support growing businesses in the Bristol and Bath area.
